Call the Midwife

level 2 TV drama for sound from Media Leyton on Vimeo.

Jingles
at the beginning, the programme is introduced with a theme song. the purpose of this is to create brand recognition so that when the theme is heard, the audience are able to acknowledge the programme without second thought. The music is a soft instrumental. the audience are suppose to feel calm and ready to watch the show.

Music.
the first scene consists of a man running. the music used here is an upbeat instrumental which matches the movement of the character as he run with the beat. This shows consistentsy whilst piecing together the sound with the actions and helps the audience understand what the mood and atmosphere is.  It is also a way of telling the audience what is going on without needing someone to say it, the character running implies that he is in a hurry. the first bit of dialogue has been good news that needs attention so the music also matches the excitement of the situation and could represent the pace their loves are moving at.

The  music changes and the pace becomes slower as the show gets into the first story. this is so the audience can adjust to the story and learn what is going on. the also implies the atmosphere of the scene.

Noise.
There have been everyday noise and sounds added to the background such as people talking and laughing which adds reality to the scene and makes the audience feel like they can relate to being in this place.

Dialogue.
The dialogue used is important as it is the main pice of sound in the show. this is what lets the audience know what is going on without them having to think about it. The character is the narrator and we hear her voice as a voice over explaining the story.

Effects.
we also hear effects of things such as squeaky doors shutting and new born babies crying. this is to also add the reality concept into the show whilst giving the audience something they may able to relate to experiencing. these things are all connotations of life and living being, representing how the way of life is.

  1. You identify a range of techniques used, and draw on some examples from the TV show. These could be clearer and developed further. V
