Research Tasks

Documentary research
Observational
This is when the reporter follows a person around to observe every event in their lives. The reporter can use hand held cameras and they don’t include interviews or voice overs.
An example of this is 16 and pregnant as they are followed around to talk about their pregnancy.

Reportage
This is news that is being reported by the press which is then broadcasted through media.
An example of this would be the press outside a court trying to find out information about a conviction.

Reconstruction
This is a scene that has been acted by other actors based on the information of a real event that happened.

An example of this is Crime Watch showing how the last moments of someone life before they were killed.

Interviews
This is when people are being filmed to answer questions about an event asked t9 them by the filmmaker.
An example of this is a child talking about themselves on Educating the East End

Objective
When something is not based or influenced by a person’s feelings or opinion and needs to be backed up with evidence.

Subjective
When something is based or influenced by a person’s feelings or opinion.

Biased
When something is unfairly judged.

I don’t think it is okay for a documentary to be subjective or biased because a documentary is supposed to inform people about something based on facts and the truth so if they used their opinions instead of facts that would be seen as propaganda.

Advertising Research.
Repetition
This is repeating something that has already been said or written.
An example of repetition is in the skittles advert, they use the catchphrase “feel the rainbow, taste the rainbow”

Slogan
A short memorable quote used to help people remember something usually used in advertising.
An example of this is “have a break, have a KitKat”

Taglines
A catchphrase or slogan that adds effect to the product making it appeal to the targeted audience.

Guilt
An emotional experience a person goes through when they realise they have disrespected a moral standard.

Aspiration
When you have hope or the ambition to achieve something

Sympathy
When you pity someone else’s pain.

The Fifa 17 advert has created a big buzz on social media between boys as it is a new game that is being released. It is being shared on social media as there are a lot of fans that are on social media therefor it causes social interaction giving people something to talk to their friends about.
